Achieving “glass skin” sounds like a dream. Clear, smooth, dewy skin that practically glows without makeup.
When I first started my journey towards that flawless, lit from within look, I thought I just needed a few good products. Turns out, its about more than just skincare. Its consistency, trial and error, and learning what works for your skin.
So here is the real deal: What worked for me and what didn’t on the road to glass skin.
What Worked:
1. Double Cleansing (Game changer)
I didn’t think cleansing could make such a difference. Until I did it properly.
Step 1: Oil Cleanser removes SPF, make up and excess oil
Step 2: Gentle water base cleanser left my skin feeling clean, not tight.
The results were amazing fewer breakouts, less dullness, and better product absorption.
2. Hydration Layering
Hydrating Toners, Essences, and lightweight serums in layers gave plump, bouncy skin.
Ingredients that worked for me: Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerine and Green Tea
Pro Tip: Apply when skin is slightly damp for maximum absorption.
3. Niacinamide and Vitamin C
This duo gave my skin an even tone and that glassy glow during the day. Niacinamide helped with oil control around my T-zone and texture. Vitamin C added brightness and faded dark spots over time.
Consistency is key, I only saw results after 3 to 4 weeks.
4. Sun Protection (Non-Negotiable)
Nothing damages skin like UV rays. Daily SPF turns out to be the unsung hero of my glow up.
Lightweight non greasy formulas worked best for me to layer over my skincare.
5. Weekly Exfoliation (But Not Too Much)
Gentle chemical exfoliation made a huge difference. I noticed smoother texture and less congestion after the first use.
What worked for me: PHA, Lactic Acid, Salicylic Acid. I only used these ingredients, separately 1 to 2 a week. Less is more here; too much will cause irritation.
What Didn’t Work:
1. Over Exfoliating
In the beginning, I thought exfoliating daily would get me there faster. Big Mistake. I ended up with redness, sensitivity and breakouts. Now, I exfoliate 1 to 2 times a week and always moisturise well after.
2. Heavy, Trendy Products
Some rich moisturisers and viral products broke me out or just sat on top of my skin. Just because its popular doesn’t mean it’s right for your skin type.
Lesson learned: Patch test and introduce products slowly.
3. Relying Only on Skincare
There are lots of other factors that can cause your skin to look a certain way.
Sleep: Skin regenerates and repairs itself while you sleep. Poor sleep will result in dullness, puffiness, breakouts and dark circles. Quality sleep will brighten your skin with a healthy glow. 7 to 9 hours a sleep a night will do more than your most expensive serum.
Diet: What you feed your body shows on your face. High sugar, high diary and ultra process foods can lead to inflammation and acne. Antioxidants like berries and leafy greens will give your skin a natural boost. Healthy fats like avocado and salmon will give your skin the Omaga it needs.
Stress: Stress messes with your hormones, which can trigger breakouts and sensitivity. Chronic stress increases cortisol levels, which can lead to oily skin, flare ups, or even conditions like eczema. Mindful practice like journaling, walking, or even meditation helps both mind and your skin.
Hydration: You can layer hydrating toners all day, but if you are not drinking enough water, your skin may still feel tight, dry or dull. Aim for at least 2 litres per day.
My Final Thoughts:
The road to glass skin isn’t linear. There were breakouts, setbacks, and moments I felt discouraged, but once I focused on hydration, gentle care and consistency, my skin began to thrive.
Its not about having perfect skin. Its about having healthy, glowing skin that feels good and looks even better.
Your journey might look different and that’s okay. What matters is finding what works for you and sticking with it.
